A recent survey revealed that nine in 10 children in the UAE spend hours on electronic gadgets daily. While the parents are not conscious enough to let their children spend too much time on them. The increased use of technology among children pull them into obesity and other health issues.
The research is done online by YouGov Omnibus in Saudi Arabia and the UAE between June 27 and July 4, among 1,009 respondents. The children showed the balanced use of gadgets for both leisure and learning activities. According to the parents, the obesity is a major health issue among kids today and followed by anxiety/psychological issues.
The majority of parents admit the connection between the excessive use of technology and childhood obesity. Physical activities and limiting screen time is the only solution for the health and well-being of their children and nutrition are given the bigger priority.
Omnibus Research head Kerry McLaren said:
“In a day and age where technology sits at the forefront of our existence, it is refreshing to see that parents are still striving for a balance with their children, pushing them to also partake in the daily physical activity.
“It appears that the majority of parents see a clear link between the increased use of technology and childhood obesity and are conscious to not let their children depend on it,”
Taking photos, listening to music and browsing the Internet is the main gadget habits among the children.
